kindling
B2CEFR level
40/100Rarity: uncommon
TechnicalRegister
A process whereby repeated subthreshold stimulation progressively lowers the threshold for a response, invoked to explain worsening withdrawal and recurrent mood episodes.
The kindling hypothesis suggests each successive episode of depression becomes easier to trigger and harder to arrest.
Rarity runs from 0 (a word everyone knows) to 100 (almost never seen outside specialist or literary writing). Level is the word's real difficulty on the CEFR scale, from A1 to C2.
